Imagine highland meadows dotted with bright colors of wildflowers, buzzing with bumblebees. There are happy cows parked on the slopes, chilling under the warm sun. Switzerland? No, try again.
Imagine a mountain track slithering up and down, left and right. It coils itself around the hills, slowly but steadily bringing you to the mountaintop. Up there you can relax by the campfire while looking at the sun setting into sweeping vistas of seemingly never-ending Mountain peaks. Thinking Balkans? Think again.
How about some culture? Meandering through what’s left of long abandoned villages, with moss covered stone walls? Basking in tranquility, while being closely watched by a curious local owl? Ok, ok, we will stop teasing your curiosity. Just come with us to Poland and be surprised.
Poland's Eastern Carpathian region is the perfect destination for those who dream about adventurising in the wilderness, but are just a tidbit shy to go "all in" just yet.
It is also perfect for seasoned adventurers who are longing for a short relaxing trip in between their long, adventurous endeavors.
And if we are being honest, it is perfect for everybody, because it has a little bit of everything to make you hooked on 4x4 travels - eye pleasing views, challenging tracks, provocative challenges, and a whole treasure trove of enjoyment!
Living conditions:
We meet on 05.06.2025 (day 0) and stay at a countryside cottage (50 € per room with double bed).
Next two days we are staying at a wild campsite. Usually in an idyllic site surrounded by picturesque landscapes. We enjoy the evenings in good company by the campfire. As it can get colder at night at higher altitudes, warm clothing and good personal camping equipment should be available. The last night we will spend in cottages (70 € per room with double bed) with restaurant and try traditional cuisine.
Historic and cultural sites:
We will visit the majestic ruins of the 18th century monastery and feast on bird eye views of the surrounding area.
If the weather allows, we will also peak into local gliding school, and later take a scenic cable car ride along the Poland's largest dam.
We will also visit family-owned museum of regional history, which contains over 2000 relics of religious, agricultural and military history. We will discover the regions coal-making craft at the one of rare remaining dedicated facilities.
And to top it off, on our last day we will travel along the "church road", where we will be able to appreciate the rich architectural variety of well preserved, predominantly wooden houses of worship.
Driving conditions:
On this trip we drive on mixed terrain: stony gravel roads, occasional tarmac and experience the grand panoramas. Occasionally we will encounter more challenging muddy tracks that require some teamwork to overcome. Some clay sections are also to be expected. Depending on the weather, the difficulty level can be described as easy to moderate. We reach the highest navigable point at an altitude of over 800 meters.
4WD and reduction gears are mandatory, at least 31" all-terrain tyres are recommended.
This tour is equally appealing for off-road beginners, overlanders and 4×4 adventurers interested in exploration and culture.
